Job description

The Director of Corporate Communications leads development, management, and execution of strategic communications activities that drive the business objectives of the company. Based in New York, this position will work closely with key business partners within the organization and lead a team to initiate programs to support brand awareness and positioning, particularly in the U.S. The Director will be responsible for establishing, owning, and growing relationships with key U.S.- based media, and developing media strategies specific to the U.S. In addition, the Director will establish and drive online and social communications globally. Experience developing strategic communication plans and leading execution of those plans is key, with demonstrated results.

Role responsibilities include:

Develop and lead execution of strategic corporate communications in the U.S. and partner on global strategic corporate communications with appropriate Lead, encompassing media relations, executive visibility, online and social media activities.

Drive corporate media relations in the U.S. and partner with Communications Lead in Europe to enhance the overall profile and reputation of the company with key audiences.

Lead a NY-based team to manage processes and procedures to streamline operations. Direct the research, writing and editing of key documents, including: press releases, media advisories, key messages, media statements, reports, Q&As, fact sheets, backgrounders, web and social content and, competitive analysis.

Establish corporate social media strategy and lead execution.

Serve as PR and Communications Lead for HBC Digital

Drive external communications for earnings and related activities, including developing and executing media plan, contributing to messaging, overseeing tracking and reporting of coverage.

Manage leadership speaking opportunities and oversee company-wide speaking opportunity process.

Implement crisis and issues management plans as required.

Direct management of media monitoring, key message library, image bank, trackers, calendars, etc., in partnership with Canada-based Corporate Communications Director.

Partner with Internal Communications, Banner PR leads, and stakeholders to develop and lead execution of corporate media plans, with a focus on the U.S. and markets outside North America.

Personal Characteristics:

The successful candidate will possess strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and planning skills with proven expertise developing media strategies that deliver results. He/she must be an excellent writer, with attention to detail and accuracy, a self-starter with demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit, enthusiasm and creativity, and a team player who works well with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will also need to have an ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

Professional Qualifications:

8-10 yearsâ experience in an agency, corporate or consulting communications environment.

Public company communications experience, including earnings prep.

Experience leading a team or managing teams cross-functionally on a project basis.

Knowledge of the retail industry.

Proficient use and knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat; familiarity with web applications.

Experience with digital or tech PR.

Must be flexible with working outside traditional office hours as needed.

Educational Credentials:

Degree in Public Relations/Journalism/Communications or a related field of study.
